April 2010

Patches are now available in memory of Paul Stinner. As per our constitution it is to be placed at the very bottom on the rear of your vest.

Joe Swedish and Frank Sutara were nominated and duly elected as trustees of Chapter 40.

Remember 22nd May is our memorial run for Paul Stinner. Details are below:

March 2010

Unfortunately we have to report that member Dave Fore met with an accident riding his Road King on 22nd March. Due to a malfunction with his bike, Dave was thrown and suffered a crushed tibia, three broken ribs and fractured shoulder. He is currently at home while the swelling in his leg subsides before being readmitted for surgery. He has a long road to recovery ahead and we wish him and Mary well.

At our March meeting our President intimated that there will be a "meet & greet" with Chapter 53 with the intention of riding to PA Grand Canyon. This will take place on September 24th - 26th

Anyone looking for a ride on Memorial Weekend should consider John Pishko's recommendation below.

REMEMBER - Blessing of the Bikes takes place on Sunday 25th April.

Date of next meeting - 10th April 2010.

January 2010

Our January meeting commenced with the sad news relating to the passing of our bro Paul Stinner.

President Mike Ceoffe reported on the success of our Christmas Party which was held for the first time at Nied's Hotel in Butler Street. It was well attended and a great time had by all.

Check out the events page for our 2010 riding calendar. In addition to our traditional rides some of the members showed an interest in having ad-hoc rides throughout the season.

Date of next meeting - 13th February 2010.

October 2009

Another riding season is almost over with lots of fun had by all the family as can be seen below at our Toys for Tots run

In addition to it being a great riding season many charities benefited from our team efforts. Stay tuned for an update on all of our 2009 events.

July 2009

News update on the Little Sisters of the Poor run on 18th July. See below for our front page exposure in the Pittsburgh Catholic.

We also received a letter of appreciation from The Little Sisters organization.

Bill Phillips, our Sergeant at Arms, represents Teamster Horsemen Capter 40 at the national meeting held this year at Tunica, Mississippi.

Bill is pictured front, far right.

Chapter 40 welcomes new members, Joe Seese, Frank Sutara and Tracy Groncki.

Our president noted that once again our Annual Pig Roast acted as a recruiting ground for prospective members. If you like what we are about, contact a member and attend one of our monthly meetings.

Although not a Teamster Horsemen event some members may be interested in the poker run to benefit Multiple Sclerosis on 23rd August.

The National Truck Driving Championship will be held in Pittsburgh this year on 22nd August. The Teamster Horsemen have been asked to participate in the parade which leaves from the Westin William Penn on Grant Street. For those wishing to take part we will be meeting on Oliver Street at 05:30 am. Yes, it is an early start, but the parade commences at 06:00 am prompt. Also requested is that you adorn your bike with the United States flag.

Finally, if you are looking for a Saturday night "hangout", Geno's Restaurant in Lawrenceville (5147 Butler St.) has a bike night every Saturday evening with 25c wings and live music (no cover). Bikes of all vintage and make can be viewed. Notably, a 1936 Harley Davidson and WWII BSA 500cc single cylinder.

June 2009

Our riding season is well under way having kicked off with the blessing of the bikes at St Michaels Church over in Ohio. This was followed by our annual participation in the Lawrenceville Memorial Day parade. The weather was hot and coupled with the slow pace contributed to a lot of burnt legs.

Unfortunately our annual pig roast was not as well attended as previous years. This was partly due to the threat of rain, that never stranspired. For those that did take part it was the usual fun packed day. Our only stop was at Gatto Cycle in Tarentum, enabling us to join the revellers who arrived at North Park by 4 wheels all the sooner. The entertainment was provided yet again by One Lane Bridge.

Our trailer made its debut at this event, providing comfort to riders knowing that rescue is available. For those who have not seen the trailer there is a picture below. It will easily accommodate two bikes with enough space left for any necessary baggage.

18th July was our Little Sisters of the Poor run. We met at the Teamster Temple where the usual coffee and doughnuts was breakfast for those of us running late. The County and Sheriff's police department provided an escort throughout the ride culminating in "feet on the pegs" for the entire ride. Our first rest stop was on Neville Island. Then it was onward to Northside to the Little Sisters of the Poor complex where we were royaly received and entertained. The fair was excellent and all in all our fun day out benefited the charity to the sum of $1000.

New event added to our schedule - Fallen Heroes motorcycle ride - 15th August 2009.
